About Self Service Car Wash
Self Service Car Wash is a self-service car wash in Lakewood, Washington. It is listed at 499 Thunderbird Pkwy SW, Lakewood, WA 98498, which places it among the local businesses of Lakewood that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
Car washes in the United States come in four main formats: the express tunnel, where you stay in the car while a conveyor pulls it through brushes or high-pressure jets; the full-service wash, where attendants vacuum and wipe down the interior after the tunnel; the self-service bay with a coin or card-operated pressure wand, foam brush and vacuums; and the hand wash, where a crew washes and dries the car by hand. Touchless tunnels skip the cloth brushes entirely and rely on chemicals and water pressure, which is gentler on paint but less effective on heavy grime. Most express chains sell an unlimited monthly plan, usually priced at two to three single washes, that is only worth it if you wash more than twice a month. Gas stations often bundle a discounted wash with a fill-up.

Lakewood is in Washington, in the Pacific Northwest, where winters are mild and wet, summers are dry and pleasant, and outdoor recreation drives a lot of local business; hours change little through the year. Getting around Lakewood is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Washington's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I've tried washing my car here a few times just hoping it was gonna get fixed up. Half of the bays either doing work or something about it would be broken or out of soap. Or even just not turning on after you pay too. Idk. It has so much potential to be so busy but it's been so neglected.

So I came here with my son who is five, he was super excited too get the car cleaned. We start disposing our trash into the garage bin and then this of age man comes up to me in a aggressive manner saying this is not what this is for, I suggest you move it along. Mind you I had my sons car seat detached for cleaning..I have my doors open and he comes back demanding for us too leave. I called 911 and told them that this man is aggressively telling me too leave his establishment and is approaching my vehicle in a aggressive way. Dude I had too back up from the place with my child not in his cars seat & the car seat detached. Like I put my child inside the car and lock the doors while on the phone with 911. It was very scary & then he starts getting a paper and pin and starts writing my license plates. Like what is this person, high? He sure looked intoxicated. He is white with white and gray hair, he is about 5'9, slim. Highly disrespectful. I felt he was being racist, he is a not kind and I will tell my family and friends who have been coming here for years about this. I'm in wasington on a vacation with my son visiting family. Very rude & if I could give no stars, I will.

Stopped by for a self wash, ran my card and started to rinse/soak my truck. Hit the brush/soap button and it did not work. Needed a wash before an appointment so I tried the next stall same thing. In total it charged me over $15 in my effort and no soap. Need to get it fixed or display signs that the wash is out of order. I walked around the facility looking for a number to call, nothing to let them know they had an issue going on. Also Googled for a website, email or chat…nothing so I felt compelled to leave this review. Beware, might not be able to afford to run the facility and be trying to scam…BTW this is the first bad review I have ever been compelled to write.

Go elsewhere!!!!! If you do plan on it. Do not use your credit/debit card here. They will overcharge you for a $3 carwash. Be prepared to bring your own coins if you don't have singles because the token machine doesn't work at times. The young guy that works in the office is useless. To busy socializing with friends while the office open. Two different occasions he was no help nor seemed interested in helping to get change or resolve any issue you bring to attention. They manage the car wash and vacuums. Vacuums don't operate correctly if at all. Time on the car wash skips it seems like so you have no choice but to keep feeding it change to finish washing your car. Go elsewhere you're better off. They've gone downhill since new ownership took over and became a car dealership.
